Are video games a sport? That question has been thrown around a lot recently. In my not-so-humble opinion, I believe the entire basis is based around the game. A game about getting from point a to point b, like Mario, or Sonic, no. They are made for linearity and singulary. Now, games such as Mario kart or Project M, yes. They are made to be played competitivly. The dictionary describes a sport being, quote, "An athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of acompetitive nature." Every linear game can be spedrun and that can be competive, but with sport games or fighting games, it all relies on 4 principals. 1: Skill. The player must have a level of expirence with said game and know what they are doing. 2: Reflexes. Even if you are the best, you CAN be bested by someone quicker than you. You must be prepared for EVERYthing. 3: Knowledge. Know where you are. Who you are playing. Who you are playing AS. Never go in blind. And 4: Don't be a Jackass. Sports, like every game, can make someone good at it an ass sometimes. They think they are the best so they act like nothing can stop them. Then, eventually, their own hubris takes them over. Don't let that happen to you. So, are video games a sport? It depends. It all relies on the force driving it. This is Kyle, Logging off.
